Sensory design at Ames Oral Surgeons

2014

A wayfinding stick design

Location: Ames Oral Surgeons, Ames, IA, USA

Problem statement: Due to lack of wayfinding system and empathy at the clinic, patients lose their ways frequently and feel uncomfortable.

Research question: How sensory design can improve patients’ experiences at hospitals?

Solution: We designed a wayfinding stick for patients. The stick is a cylinder shape with wood. The stick lets patients know the directions when they are in aisle. The wood material may give comfortable feeling when patients grab the stick.
